We bought our house in 2006. It was a 1930s semi and my wife and I could see ourselves raising a family there, but when winter set in, our dream home turned into a nightmare. It was cold and damp and to my horror, black mould crept up the walls.
Life was deeply unpleasant during the winter months. We tried everything to make the house more comfortable such as scrubbing away the mould and renewing the ventilation, but the damp problem persisted.
When we had our first baby, a gorgeous girl, I had to do something as it was no place to bring up a child.
I read about a pioneering method of external wall insulation that was transforming homes across the continent, from Scandinavia, to Germany and Eastern Europe, where I grew up.
I took a leap of faith and it was one of the best decisions of my life
I took a leap of faith and had it installed. It was one of the best decisions of my life. The system transformed our uninviting house into a beautiful home. It was cozy and warm, our energy bills plummeted and the black mould disappeared. It was truly life changing.
When I set out to get the work done, I couldn’t find any suppliers in the UK who could fit the system professionally while observing the relevant building regulations and industry standards.
So, I assembled my own team and managed the project. There were a few mistakes, some costly, but I came to love this product so much, I quit my job as an accountant and set up Pioneer Insulation. Some members of that original team still work for me today.
In time, I came across other ways to make homes more appealing and comfortable, so Pioneer now offers a wider range of services including damp proofing, energy efficient windows and gas boilers.

Since 2012, we have transformed the homes of hundreds of happy customers and have won a string of awards for our insulation and complementary services. In March 2022 we were named Insulation & Fabric Installer and Contractor of the Year 2022 for the third year running at the London Energy Efficiency Awards 2022.
I am so proud of what we have achieved. Pioneer has made a difference. From the little girl who no longer has to sleep in a mouldy room, to the elderly couple who say we added years to their lives and the many young families whose homes are better places to raise children.
